  • Important Announcement with regard to recent BCC rule violations

    It is with regret and disappointment we announce that several members of the Black Canon Collective are banned from The Allotment site and club events until they have committed their time and energy to contributing to the club.

    These members broke one or both of the following rules, and so will be required to complete a number of “club hours” before they will be able to use the Allotment and participate in club events again.

    Rule 16: No fires are permitted at the Allotment.

    Rule 13: There is to be no construction of any kind at the Allotment, including trail construction, without clear and prior consent of the committee.

    Despite being reluctant to stop anybody from riding and participating in the club, the committee has decided that there have to be consequences for these actions, firstly deliberately building and then rebuilding a feature when they were aware it had been taken apart on a Dig Day, and then endangering themselves and others by having naked flames on the Allotment, an area of forestry.

    The number of “club hours” that have to be done varies from member to member, from 10 to 40 hours, based on the rule breaking they were involved in, and their conduct since.

    “Club hours” will include Dig Days, setting up for Tickertapes and other events, as well as other activities when suitable. If you identify an opportunity for these members to contribute to the club, please email committee@blackcanoncollective.co.uk and we will consider it.

    If you identify that a member who is banned is riding at the Allotment, or at a club event, please ask them politely if they have completed their club hours – we will have a list that will be updated to show when they have completed their hours). If not, please remind them they should not be riding at the site. If there is any further problem, please inform the committee, who will act accordingly.

    This notice is applicable immediately, and therefore members listed below who were involved in these incidents will not be able to participate in tomorrow’s Tickertape. They can begin to complete their club hours by helping set up and pack away the event.

  • TickerTape – Sunday 24th June – MCC

    Tickertape returns, this sunday from 12 am – 3pm.

    We’re running MCC which is used for the dinner till dusk descent.  No Jumps or drops, just really fun drifty corners, for this reason we allow open face helmets so if any of our XC members want to put in a few times you’re more than welcome.

    • Fully taped DH course.
    • Freelap timing system (record as many times as you like, remembering to share the watches using the 2 run pass it on rule).
    • Must have a suitable working bike with 2 fully working brakes.
    • Must wear a properly fitting cycling helmet (open face helmets allowed for MCC only).
    • BCC members only (suggested donation £2).

    Help setting up (11am-12am) and packing away (3pm-4pm) is fully appreciated.

    Saturday 23rd June 2012, Doors open 19:40, racing starts 20:00.

  • Warminster Wobble MTB TT, this sunday!

    The time trial course takes in just over 1km of exciting terrain with rugged grassy sections, steep uphill’s, tight turns and flowing downhill’s. It has a bit of everything.

    The fastest time overall will receive the Frank Batchelor Memorial Trophy, hand-made by a Warminster craftsman. The Challenge is divided into five age groups with a fantastic trophy, also fabricated in Warminster, to be presented to the winner of each category.

    In 2012 we have re-designed the course for younger riders ‘cos that steep uphill is just a little too tough!

    The Course Record was set in 2010 by Dan Irons with a time of 2:27, but the current champion is his younger and more attractive brother!

    Course key:

    1: Hairpin Turn – Uphill | Technique: Low gear and keep pedalling!

    2: Steep – Downhill | Technique: Take it steady and shift bodyweight backwards

    3: Left turn – Sharp | Technique: Right pedal down.

    4: Left turn – Sweeping, Fast! | Technique: Right pedal down.

     

    Its all free, so get yourself down to warminster town park for some grassroots (literally) mtb tt eventing!

  • BCCBP x Bristol

    Bristol have decided to come and play with us this week, it will be good to see some fresh faces and learn some skills. If you’re free, come down, watch and get involved… All are welcome! 7:30-9:30pm at the Frome Youth Centre.

  • June Ride Away: Exmoor (Porlock start)

    SUNDAY 10th JUNE (this coming Sunday!)

     

    Plan is to do a loop starting in Porlock.

    Route is 19miles – nothing too extreme, climbing, singletrack, quiet trails, Dunkery Beacon, near Wooton Courtney, Webbers Post, down a Combe, fast downhill, singletrack blast into Porlock. There, I’ve just ridden it for you.
    Usual guidelines apply: Meet at 8am in the Cheese & Grain car park. There are no facilities or shops en route so please bring enough food and drink for about a 4 hour ride. Plenty of shops in Porlock to buy your malt loaf and ‘new’-tella, though. Please also ensure your bike is in good working order and bring spares, tools and appropriate clothing.
    A quick show of hands, please, to make sure this is viable. I know it’s short notice, but Life gets in the way of arranging these things sometimes.
    And we need a ride-leader to volunteer his services, otherwise it’ll be a ‘forum ride’ and not a ‘ride-away’.
