Month: February 2011

  • TickerTape Winter Series – Rnd3 – 20/02/2011

(will Curtis manage to destroy the field again? he’s been practising…)

    This month it’s BBMS.

You know, the really tight singletrack descent with lots of roots and awkward off-camber.

    Yeah, that one.

Yeeeeeeesss the one with that horrible double root combination on the tight corner right near the bottom.

It will be slippery, you’re right.

Well then you’ll have to slow down for it!

    No, it’s staying in.

Because it’s the same for everyone, and will make for some very interesting racing.

    I know, it’ll be awesome!

See you there, racing starts at 11 and finishes at 3.

Turn up early if you’d like to help out, it’s always appreciated.

Oh, and don’t forget to bring a small donation, £2 should do it.

    Beans.

  • Dinner 'til Dusk Three: Heroes

Time & Date: Sunday March 27th, course opens at 13:00, 14:00 start.

Duration: Three hours of enduro racing.

Course: A different climb, more technical features, more fun descending

Fancy Dress Theme: Heroes (encouraged, not essential)

Teams: Any size, but solo or pairs recommended.

Prizes: For best fancy dress and most beans. Stickers for solo and pairs winner.

    See you there!

  • Flags, Face Plants and Food

Front wheel wash out, face plant, stand up, guttural moan, a stumble, a second face plant. That’ll teach me to allow riding on dig day.

Until Tom’s crash I thought it had gone well – enthusiastic volunteers from the crack of dawn – Pip, Steve – joined by (one armed) Andy and his son Matt; Ben and Tom, working hard on BBMS drainage as well as their bromance and Mark arriving just in time to help build a new corner on the course named after him.

After lunch, Tom’s crash and cakes we (including new arrival Dan) flagged and cleared a new section in the top woods for the Dinner ’til Dusk course.

At the end of the day as we cleared up the tools Robin materialised (to tell us about his new riding jeans) and then Garry and his broken wrist arrived to ply us with doughnuts and coke – a gluttonous end to a productive day.

  • XC Ride Away – Swinley Forest – Sunday 13th Feb

For February’s club ride we’re going to visit Swinley Forest, which is full of great single track that is guaranteed to make you smile all day long.

We’re going to meet Sunday 13th February in Frome at the Cheese & Grain at 7.45am, aiming to leave 8am, that should get us there 9.30am, riding by 10am. We’ll ride for 3-4 hours in total. There is a café on site, however we won’t be in the area for the cafe until after the ride so please bring food and drink to eat whilst riding.

As always you will need a good quality, well maintained bike with plenty of brake pad material, a helmet and suitable clothing and spares i.e. – extra spare tubes due to the type of terrain, power links etc. There is no bike shop on site.

We will car pool as much as possible to keep costs down. If anyone would like to drive and take bikes and passengers, please let us know.

There are no car parking charges, but each rider is required to purchase a day permit, which costs £2.00, these can be bought on line here .

As always please let us know if you’re coming, and if you need anymore info, by using the club forum or by sending us an email.

    Cheers!

  • Home Grown – The Ride Journal

A little while ago I wrote an article for The Ride Journal about The Allotment; how it came to be, what it means to me, and how important it is to the club. On Thursday the article was published along with a wonderful illustration by Matt Wellsted that was commissioned especially for the piece. If you click on the bottom image you will be able to view it at a higher resolution, which should be big enough to read…
