DH Dig Day – Sat 5th June

Its Dig Day this Saturday and there’s plenty to do!

We’ll be aiming to continue work on the new bottom section of BBMS which will include; bench cutting the new line, building a catch berm, building up a drop and then continuing to clear the trail to the very bottom.

Hopfully plenty can make it out, it should be great weather and would be ace to be able to open this new line by the end of the day. Oh, you might need insect repellent though but dont worry if you haven’t got any – we’ll be selling it on the day!

See you there… (starts at 10:00am and finishes at 16:00, any help during this time is greatly appreciated)…

We’re set2rise….are you?

Published by Andrew Denham under BCC, BCC Calendar, set 2 rise

This weekend is going to be ace… lots of bikes, lots of singletrack, and lots of time to eat mule bars and listen to dodgy techno-trance music.

set 2 rise is a firm club fixture and with 4 BCC teams this year (and some splinter cells) we hope to do more than make up the numbers (actually that’s prob what we’ll do best).

Come over and say hello if you see us, we’ll be the ones with the fire pit and plenty of vans  - we’re working on our team kit (it’s nearly done) but for now we identify ourselves with flames and commercial vehicles .

See you there!

Summer summer summer time!

Published by Andrew Denham under BCC, BCC Calendar

As you will have realised by now British summer time is here (wooooooooooooooooooooooo)!

It’s amazing what a difference an hour makes, before long our night rides will become light rides, dig days and tickertapes will last longer and we’ll be able to go further on our monthly ride aways.

Also, BMX fridays and afterwork allotment sessions will start up soon too making every day a riding day, and that can only be a good thing.

Calendars Discounted!

With a couple of months behind us we’ve decided to slash the price of the BCC Calendar to £5 so that we can clear the final few and get some money in the bank. So if you haven’t got one already please consider getting one now, it’s full of fantastic images from our first year as a club and really is worth having as a memento (not to mention the fact that there’s still 8 months left and it’s a flipping good calendar)!

To buy a calendar just click on the “shop” tab above.

DH Dig Day

This Sunday is the first Dig Day of 2010, and we’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

The winter hasn’t been kind to the ground and has tested our drainage to it’s limits, but thanks to some great work last year the damage is minimal. This Sunday we’ll be giving all the tracks a once over, some TLC. They’re almost weather resistant, but need some tweaking here and there.

We’ll also start building the next big feature on ‘Puppets’ a large berm-fly-off at the bottom of the ‘Battery Hill’ section.

We’ll bring the lot sof tools, tea, coffee and cakes, you just need to bring some elbow grease (and a rake)…

See you there (@ the Allotment, 10:00)

New – Monthly XC Ride Away

This is great news, thanks to the ride leader training and some momentum picking up from the weekly night riders the club will be offering a monthly XC ride away! This will me a permanent fixture in the club calendar and will be held in between the Ticker Tape & Dig Days each month. With loads of local and not so local trails and routes to explore we promise to keep things fresh.

Full details will be available on the website, via the news feed, Calendar and also the club Forum where you can discuss the ride or make travel arrangements etc.

Our first ride:

The Gap Route – Brecon Beacons

Distance: 40km
Total Ascent: 1100m
Duration: 5h +
Date: Sunday 21/03/2010
Meeting point: Talybont-on-Usk
Meeting Time: 10am for a 10:30 start

(Parking is on the main road it can be busy, especially if the weather is nice!)

The ride is mainly on existing bridleways that cut through the Brecon Beacons. The highlight of the route is riding through the ‘Gap’ between Cribyn and Fan-y-Big at 599m

A route map can be found here: http://www.ridethequantocks.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/gap.pdf

And a description can be found here: http://www.mtb-wales.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Subjects&file=index&req=viewpage&pageid=31

There is a café at about the halfway point, grid reference: SO055175

Notes:
Unlike trail centres, the tracks were not designed with mountain bikers in mind, and have to be shared with other users.
At some places on the route we will be many miles from civilisation, mobile phones can’t be relied upon.
The highest point on the route is exposed to the full extremes of weather.
• Ensure your bike is in good mechanical order
• Always ride within your ability
• Carry enough food and water for a full day
• Carry your own tools and spares
• Even if its sunny when you set off carry a waterproof and warm jersey
• A personal survival bag or blanket is recommended
• As is small backup light

The ride is open to anyone over 18, members and non-members alike.
