Category: Dig Day

  • Christmas log

It’s beautiful here, and despite the snowy conditions the ground is soft enough to dig!

  • Dig Day is Go!

Today’s Dig Day is going ahead as planned. We’ll play it by ear, changing the scope of work depending upon ground conditions and may even finish early if the temperature doesn’t improve. Please wrap up warm but wear layers as you’ll soon get hot when you start working.

    See you there!

  • East 17

At the moment I think about raking on the train.

I plan how some artful mattock use will provide the perfect drainage solution while on the toilet.

I spend my lunch hour calculating how many trees I will have to saw to finish the marking.

I use my headphone cables to illustrate my trail ideas to work colleagues.

But I haven’t had the time to actually work on the new singletrack (“East 17”).

(Please keep an eye on the forum for the next singletrack dig day).

  • Calling all DH'ers or extra hands

Hello to all the gravity affected dudes.
This Sunday is the dig day at the woods. It starts at 10:00 then finishes before it gets dark and the wolves come out. It’s an excellent hangover cure and is cheaper than the gym.
We are going to be starting work on a few sections of Puppets, the new/old track that flanks 143. It’s going to be a lot of work and you may even get muddy! Don’t let that put you off because come summer it will be real fun to ride as ever. So while you are off your bikes, come and help make a track that you will be proud of when you are tearing it to pieces.
We also would love input into the start and end sections, so get those creative juices flowing!
I will hopefully see you there on Sunday. I will be present with my new wellies so please don’t laugh.
    Cheers,
    Neil

  • Dig Day Today!

Don’t forget it’s Dig Day today, we’re here with tools, timber, tea and cake. There’s plenty to do and lots to eat, we just need some more hands to get the job done. Hopefully see you soon…

  • 2010 BCC Calendar

Now I might have left this a bit too late, but… I hope to put together a 2010 Black Canon Collective Calendar which will be ready in time for Christmas! The calendar will be sold for a reasonable sum to raise funds for some of the projects which we are working on (skills area and Groovy Blue trail). Now we are dealing with a very short time scale and I need pictures FAST! I want the calendar to show all the different aspects of bike riding (XC, DH, Velodrome, cobble wobble) digging, racing or general ride related faffing that BCC members get themselves into. The only rule is that the photo must be of a BCC member and it must be of sufficient quality to be printed on A5, but the rest is up to you. To have any hope of this project working, I need YOU to get all your best photos and upload them onto the Black Canon Collective Flickr account before Sunday 15th November.

    http://www.flickr.com/groups/blackcanoncollective/pool/

A select panel of judges will then select the finest 12 photos for the Calendar.

If you have any questions please e mail me on simon.truelove@blackcanoncollective.co.uk

  • Now that's how you build a drop!

    Wadda lovely thing!

Today we started work on the three tiered drop/step-down at the top of spoons.

We built the first of the three tiers; the ‘medium’ line.

I think you’ll agree; its pretty bloody lush!

Next month we’ll build the ‘small’ and ‘big’ drops.

Maybe by then we’ll have come up with some better names for them.

Thanks to Neil, Josh, Jim, Dave and Gordon. She’s a beauty!

  • Change of plans…

Preparations for the Cobble Wobble and some other commitments mean that this weekends Dig Day (Sat 12th/09/09) isn’t going ahead.

Don’t worry though, we’ll be running two evening excevators between now and TickerTape (26th/09/09) to make sure we can all get our fix of shovel and rake based antics.

For more details check the calender over the next two days ….

    Cheers
