  • Bike Polo- Calendar Clash

This week’s polo session sadly clashes with another club event, a visit to Calshot for a Track Cycling taster session. Therefore, a large percentage of the regular polo players won’t be able to make it. What we are looking for is a show of hands of who can definitely make it on Wednesday, we need a minimum of 4 to have any chance of playing! Please comment below if you can.

(Prince Philip was also partial to a spot of Bike Polo).

  • December Ride Away to Bristol ***POSTPONED***

What with a poor weather forecast, clashes with other local MTB events and Leigh Woods not being *quite* ready to enjoy at it’s fullest, we’ll save the trip to Bristol for another month.

  • Bike Polo- The Third Addition

We arrived at the Youth Centre early this week, as Chris had kindly assembled a handful of mallets so that we could play. However, there was some controversy over mallet length, Chris leaving them uncut which would be a perfect fit… but only if your name is Bao Xishun!

Anyway, this was soon rectified with the help of a hacksaw and we were ready to play. A total of 7 people attended this session, which was a little disheartening to begin with, until we realised it means we get to play almost constantly for 2 1/2 hours!

Steve Corner made his first appearance and did a pretty good job of getting to grips with this alien sport, although coming from DH he seemed to struggle to keep his feet on the pedals. Everyone played well and the goals rolled in thick and fast which added to the excitement.

Hopefully there will be a better turn out next week, there was a lack of atmosphere with only one cheerleader per game.

    See you all next week.

  • Bike Polo Gangs

The more we play, the more likely it is that we will see small groups (read gangs) emerging. There’s also a lot of potential for gangs to uncover themselves, we’ve already got Avon Valley Cycles, The Bicycle Academy, BRKNCK and reckon that there’s plenty more…

Hopefully it will get as developed as this:

  • Polo Session #3

Yes, it’s been a whole week since the last session. In that time i hope you have been focusing your mind, ready to step your polo game up to another level!

Same time and place as last week (7:30-9:30 at Frome Youth Centre).

Bristol Rich isn’t joining us this week, but not to worry we have everything we need.

  • Leaf rakes and jelly babies

17 people made it to the Dig Day on Sunday.
We installed two new tool stations, repaired the recent water damage on 143 and Aviator (the step-up) before renovating east 17 and working on the new XC decent too. After lunch we raked BBMS back to black and created some new XC goodness in the top woods also.
We ate jelly babies and got wet in the rain.
    It was brilliant.

  • Dig Day this Sunday

This Sunday, from 10 until 3.

    The to do list:

    • 143 – drainage, new top section, further work on the step up and roll in
    • Two new tool stations
    • A more detailed look at the line for Gravy Train and a change to BBMS.
    • XC – A new Night Rider / Dinner ’til Dusk section and also more work on the bowl section of the main descent.

Remember food, drink and that it’s ok to just come for a couple of hours if you can’t spare more time.

p.s. With a good turn out we’ll be able to start the new Gravy Train line sooner, so encourage everyone to turn up!

  • BCC Bike Polo – The Sequel

For those who weren’t aware, last night was our second session of polo. Once again there was a strong turn out, Rich and Tabs made their way over from Bristol with our fresh new delivery of mallets (all 23 of them). It had been raining earlier in the day, so i was worried that it would put people off and make the court too slippery to play on. The court was as good grippy as ever and there were a few new faces, so we battled on through blustery conditions.

I had attached a DIY front wheel cover to protect my precious spokes from the dangers of mallets and limbs. However, handling was compromised and several gusts of wind soon saw me heading in the wrong direction.

In one of the early games Rich and Tabs ended up on opposing teams. It was interesting to watch them play against each other, exhibiting skills we can only dream of!

Same again next week (hopefully with less precipitation) –  here’s a picture taken by Andrew with his good hand 😉

  • It's that time again! – Bike Polo Wednesday 30th

It’s the best night of the week, POLO NIGHT! We are all set for more thrills (and plenty of spills).
Weather is looking like it will hold out, so come along and sample the delights of Frome’s newest and fastest growing sport.

(This move is known as doing “a Will” 😉 )
