  • Joint Ride-away

No… before any of you Stoners (you know who you are) get the wrong idea, this is simply another inter-club ride with those excellent fellas from the Bigfoot MBC.

We had such a good day on the Quantocks last time that Jase recently suggested it’d be good to revisit together.

So, here’s a heads-up well in advance: Sunday 18th November. We’ll meet at 8am outside the Cheese and Grain and aim to meet up with them in that lay-by on the A39 just outside Holford at 9.30am (grid ref: ST158408). http://binged.it/zbCKEb

There are no facilities or shops on the Quantocks so please bring enough food, drink and spares for about a 3-4 hour hardish XC ride.  It could even be wintery!!

    More details here: http://www.bigfootmbc.co.uk/2012/10/away-day-quantocks-xc-dark-blue/

NB: if no certified BCC ride-leaders are in attendance, it’ll just be a ‘forum’ ride.

  • 10/11/12: Three Minute Laps

    Are you in favour of:

    Short climbs
    Singletrack
    Fun descents
    Technical options
    Being part of a team
Exerting yourself for three minutes at a time?

Three Minute Laps launches at 12 noon, Saturday 10 November 2012 at the Allotment, suitable for any bike (almost) you will compete on your own, as a team, against the clock and against others.

    Hope to see you there.

  • Tickertape is back!

At the Allotment on Sunday 28th October.

12 Noon until 3pm, help setting up from 11am and packing away afterwards gratefully received.

Freelap timing, marked course, £2 suggested donation.

  • Dinner 'til Dusk Cancelled Due to Insufficient Interest

Sorry to do this, but there aren’t enough people who have committed.

Please give feedback on the forum as to:

    – When we rearrange it for

    – Other events you’d like to see

    – What we can do to make it more popular.

We will be holding a small Dig Day tomorrow morning 9am-12 noon to prepare and improve the course ahead of when we finally do hold it!

  • Glory is like a circle in the water

Shakespeare said: “Glory is like a circle in the water”*, and much the same thing could be said about Dinner ’til Dusk (the BCC’s mini enduro), held a week on Saturday at the Allotment.

If you (in the absence of Mr Noble) can manage more circles in the (inevitable puddles of) water than anyone else, you will have the glory of winning.

You will also be the recipient of glory if your sport based costume is better than that of everyone else or if your baking is voted everyone’s favourite (I like lemon drizzle cakes especially, and bakewell tart).

Now I can’t be sure you’re all convinced, so if you could could RSVP to the thread on the forum that would be great, and if you want to help before hand we have a dig day this weekend to design and prepare the course. Plus help will be needed setting up on the day, not to mention putting everything away afterwards.

The big day is Saturday 06 October and the racing begins at 12 noon, for three hours of riding (solo, in a pair or as a team), eating and rattling musical instruments.

  • Welshmill pump track open

You’ll all be happy to know that after a lot of hard work by Back-On-Track and the team of volunteers, the Welshmill pump track is now open and ready to be ridden. Please do take care of the turf and areas of grass seeding and allow them time to establish. Enjoy!

  • Tantalizingly close…. this track wants YOU

Back-on-track, the contractors who built the pump track, are expected back on Monday (23rd) to finish off the track, and there is also a safety inspection booked for that day.  The contractors need to be happy with the surface, and we need a safety inspection before the track can be open for use.

Would you like to be involved in the project?  Can you help us maintain this track in “MINT” condition over the summer?  Rowan Sorrell from Back-on-track will be giving trail maintenance advice on Monday at 2.30pm down at the track at Welshmill.  Are you free during the day on Monday to come along then and learn how to keep the track in perfect condition?  All welcome.

  • Welshmill Opening Celebration postponed till September!

Despite all the freak summer weather conditions, the contractors Back-on-Track and Jane’s Pond have persevered and the heavy work is practically complete, although the track could do with extra time to bed down.

However, the grass turfing and seeding are in too fragile a state to hold a mass picnic on 21st July and we have postponed the celebration until 29th September.  The ground just wouldn’t stand the heavy use so soon after laying.
Similarly, the pump track will benefit from a longer bedding-in period before intensive use.

The park will be open over the summer holidays, with some areas screened off to prevent compacting the ground if (!) the wet weather continues, and we hope people will respect the signs.

So, although we have to postpone the celebration, there will be the chance to visit the park during the August school holidays. And the landscaping will look so much better in September !

The volunteer planting/work will still take place on 14th July from 2pm.
