  • Skills area update

After last weeks meeting I have been speaking to a few local trackbuilders who are pretty experienced in this sort of thing,Things are looking good, with lots of contacts and information being given to me, I expect you all will have seen the play doh tv video on the site where we made a mock up of the skills area,we are starting with a loop that will cater for all from novice to pro,and each line will progress from the smallest of jumps and bumps on line 1,then gradually build up all the way through to the pro line that will have big doubles, step ups and hips for me to crash on,work is very much in progress watch this space!

  • Play-doh Skills Area

There are only a few trail builders in the world who don’t use play-doh to model the 3D doodles that fly around in their heads, and we all know that they use marzipan.

In light of the fact that we’d all just eat the marzipan, we stuck with the multi coloured joy doh and started 3D printing straight from our noodles.

That’s right, play-doh makes you giddy.

Having got some ideas down, we’ll be focusing on designing lines 1 and 3; something that Chris Smith can tell you all about….

  • Trail Designing

Over the next few months we’ll be working to design and build three new trails / trail areas; project Groovy Blue, project Skills Area and project Spine.

Chris Sheppard, Chris Smith and Ian Crook will be leading each of these projects respectively, with the full support of the rest of the committee.

These projects have been the topic of discussed for some time, but with so many things going on in the club we’ve been unable to fully commit to any of them up until now.

We will be following the existing industry best practice so that we can ensure we achieve high quality sustainable trails. The Forestry Commission highlight 7 stages of Planning, Constructing and Monitoring Mountainbike Trails:

    1. Information gathering
    2. Concept planning
    3. Creating a specification
    4. Construction of the trail
    5. Interpretation and signs
    6. Completing the work
    7. Monitoring and maintenance

All three projects are currently hovering around stages 1-3, but we’re aiming to get to the end of stage 4 and start of stage 5 by April 2010. This won’t be easy, and will require a lot of fund raising, so we’d really appreciate your help. Keep checking the website for progress and please contact any of the project leaders if you have any questions.

    Thank you!

  • Skills Area

Over the past few months I’ve been working closely with the committee designing the skills area. The area will cater for all and help improve everyone’s skill level; from technical trail manoeuvres to getting your first few inches of air under your wheels. I’m really looking forward to getting this area built and am keen for your input, so if you’d like to get involved in any way please drop me a line.

    Cheers

    Chris
