Category: Building

  • Homework.

At the moment each committee member is working on a project.

My project involves improving the Allotment as a riding environment for the XC side of the club. My idea is to build a singletrack link from the site of the skills area (close to the main fire road) to the point where the ‘Moron’ DH section meets the fire road that runs up to our current three downhill trails.

The trail will be possible to ride both ways. In my head I imagine the style to be similar to the section that runs parallel to the Center Parcs drive – so sweeping corners, gentle climbs – fun!

This project will hopefully achieve a number of things:

    • To encourage XC riders into and through the Allotment.

    • To allow more varied loops of the Allotment.

    • To have more traffic through the Allotment, which will hopefully decrease the number of non-members and littering.

  • Job done!

    Team Sprok

    Today was Dig Day.

Me, Sam, Gordon, Ian, James, Robin, Dave and The Chedge worked until our hands didn’t grip and we couldn’t see.

Building on the work Neil, Josh, Jim, Dave, Gordon and I put in at the last dig day we managed to finish ‘Spork’.

Hopefully all the drainage and grading work we did will mean that the run in doesn’t get too boggy either.

Imagine what we could achieve if a few more people helped out…

  • Dig Day Today!

Don’t forget it’s Dig Day today, we’re here with tools, timber, tea and cake. There’s plenty to do and lots to eat, we just need some more hands to get the job done. Hopefully see you soon…

  • 2010 BCC Calendar

Now I might have left this a bit too late, but… I hope to put together a 2010 Black Canon Collective Calendar which will be ready in time for Christmas! The calendar will be sold for a reasonable sum to raise funds for some of the projects which we are working on (skills area and Groovy Blue trail). Now we are dealing with a very short time scale and I need pictures FAST! I want the calendar to show all the different aspects of bike riding (XC, DH, Velodrome, cobble wobble) digging, racing or general ride related faffing that BCC members get themselves into. The only rule is that the photo must be of a BCC member and it must be of sufficient quality to be printed on A5, but the rest is up to you. To have any hope of this project working, I need YOU to get all your best photos and upload them onto the Black Canon Collective Flickr account before Sunday 15th November.

    http://www.flickr.com/groups/blackcanoncollective/pool/

A select panel of judges will then select the finest 12 photos for the Calendar.

If you have any questions please e mail me on simon.truelove@blackcanoncollective.co.uk

  • Now that's how you build a drop!

    Wadda lovely thing!

Today we started work on the three tiered drop/step-down at the top of spoons.

We built the first of the three tiers; the ‘medium’ line.

I think you’ll agree; its pretty bloody lush!

Next month we’ll build the ‘small’ and ‘big’ drops.

Maybe by then we’ll have come up with some better names for them.

Thanks to Neil, Josh, Jim, Dave and Gordon. She’s a beauty!

  • Lush

    renovate

This is Sam and Jim rebuilding the log drop on BBMS. Well Sam’s the only one working because Jim is distracted by the sound of roaring Lions (or is that Syd’ pooping?).
BBMS is pretty frickin’ lush now, it’s been raked to within an inch of its life, has loads of nice new markings and has seen some little but important additions…
We had another 20 elbows all getting their grease on; Sam, Marjory, Jim, Stacey, Neil, Ian, Gordon, Theo and Syd’ all worked wonders this evening.
Moron and Spoons received the royal treatment too, meaning that the Allotment is tip top and ready to ride.
    Thanks guys!

  • Tick Tock

    Gordone

This is Gordon (or TickTock to his friends)
Come TickerTape or wobble he’ll be there either taking part or cheering everyone on
Gordon turns up to every dig day too, eager to help and full of beans
So thank you Gordon, you really do help the club tick

  • What a difference a day makes…

Thanks to Chris, Darren, Garry, Gordon, Jim, Mark, Neil, Sam and Simon. Twenty greasy elbows have left BBMS looking as good as new, and spoons well on the way.

More of the same tomorrow, 17:15 at the allotment.

  • Trail Maintenance + Planning

I’ll be running two evening dig sessions this week at the allotment:

    Wednesday 23rd & Thursday 24th. Both from 17:15 – 19:00 (when it gets dark)

loads of markings need replacing and both spoons, bbms and moron need some TLC with an army of rakes so that the autumn leaves dint hide them entirely. It’ll also be a good opportunity to talk about what you think we should build next, as the (third quarter) trail development plan will be written over the next two weeks.

Oh and remember it’s TickerTape this coming Sat so this will be a great chance to make sure the trails are running sweet for our little DH jam.

Hope to see you there, cheers!

p.s. I’ll bring tools, but if you have a leaf rake please bring it. Thanks!

  • BMX WORKS CANCELLED

Just got an e-mail from Steve to say that tomorrows event has been cancelled due to bad weather. I’ll keep you posted with re-schedule info…
