  • 21/12/2010 – Night Rider Cancelled

We aim to be back as normal on the 28/12/2010 assuming that the roads have cleared up so we can actually get to the pub…!

  • The Dark Side

Well if you think last weeks ride was cold, you should have come out for the 2nd freezing night ride of the winter. We’re always recruiting new riders who want to join the Tuesday night party, so com’on out, don’t let Mr Winter keep you in the house, we’ve even got lights you can use!

Once we got going we soon forgot that it was cold as Mr Sheppard (a real person, unlike Mr Winter) led us around the nice dry hard packed trails.  It reminded us of the summer riding, well, except for the ice & snow. We headed over to the ‘Darkside’ to hit the recently found single tracks, did our couple of hours and headed back to the pub for a beverage of choice sat next to a nice warm fire. Perfect.

  • First freezing night ride this winter.

Eleven of us set off from the Horse and Groom last night, it was proper cold with a clear sky and a bright full moon.

Within a mile from the pub Paul had a mech through spokes incident and he and Adrian were heading for an early pint.

Nine of us continued, the trails were sticky in places but on the whole good for November. We rode a trail the far side of Centre Parcs that we found quite recently and we’ve called ‘Vancouver’ (Al’s fault)

After crossing the ford on our way home to the H&G  we noticed the grass was white with frost, a taster of what’s to come but it does feel nice when you’re toasty warm from your exercise and yet it’s freezing.

We had our pints in front of the open fire while discussing the Ceilidh and where to ride Sunday.

If you’d like to try a night ride please contact us we can even loan lights  🙂

  • Crash bang wallop

Yesterday Geraint decided to test out the skills of our freshly trained Ride Leaders by crashing and breaking himself a bit. What he didn’t realise was that one of our newest members and first time Tuesday Night Rider was a Doctor. No need to flex any AVPU muscles then…

Big thanks go to Mark Vose for his help and for actually having a triangular bandage!

Anyway, here’s Geraints take on what happened:

Me and my big mouth…no sooner had I said the words ‘airborne’ and ‘faceplant’ to describe my mountain bike riding style, than I tried to jump a log and went headlong into a course of events which includes, paramedic, A&E, sling and pain! Clavicle broken in two places, MTB off the menu for 6 weeks! Sorry to stuff up the best bit of singletrack on the ride, the sling from the RUH isn’t much different from trail side first aid. Got my beer in at 12.30 when we got back, but that shirt will have to go….

  • We're on Google Street View!

Well we are there a lot! That’s right, last summer when getting ready to go on one of our Tuesday Night Rides the Google Street View car drove past …

  • Tuesday 12 January Night Ride

    Tuesday Night Riders!
We are planning to ride for the first time in 2010 as normal at 7pm from the Horse & Groom in East Woodlands. However, more heavy snow is predicted so I will post something here before 6pm in case we have to cancel, please do check back…

  • Night Ride Cancelled

Tuesday 22/12/09 Night Ride is cancelled.

After boasting “whatever the weather” in my last post, we  won’t be running tomorrow’s night ride because of the severe weather warning issued by the met office, and the fact that we can’t guarantee that we will be able to get there to run the ride ourselves.

We will try to hold a Night Ride before Christmas, so please check back here / on the forum if you’re interested.

  • 2010 BCC Calendar

Now I might have left this a bit too late, but… I hope to put together a 2010 Black Canon Collective Calendar which will be ready in time for Christmas! The calendar will be sold for a reasonable sum to raise funds for some of the projects which we are working on (skills area and Groovy Blue trail). Now we are dealing with a very short time scale and I need pictures FAST! I want the calendar to show all the different aspects of bike riding (XC, DH, Velodrome, cobble wobble) digging, racing or general ride related faffing that BCC members get themselves into. The only rule is that the photo must be of a BCC member and it must be of sufficient quality to be printed on A5, but the rest is up to you. To have any hope of this project working, I need YOU to get all your best photos and upload them onto the Black Canon Collective Flickr account before Sunday 15th November.

    http://www.flickr.com/groups/blackcanoncollective/pool/

A select panel of judges will then select the finest 12 photos for the Calendar.

If you have any questions please e mail me on simon.truelove@blackcanoncollective.co.uk
