  • Multitasking: AGM + Dinner 'til Dusk

If there is one thing that I’m a fan of it’s multitasking. That’s right, doing two things at once (toilet and Twitter being my favourite!), or combining two things to minimise the time spent washing, travelling and changing my clothes. Now as a committee we are eager to keep up to date with these fads and trends so we have decided to embrace this philosophy – on the the 27th of March, straight after the Dinner ’til Dusk winners have been announced we will be hosting this years AGM, live at the Allotment!

One of the activities that takes place at the AGM is the voting for the members of the committee for the next year, but for the vote to go ahead (and for the club to be successful) we need to have people who put themselves forward to take on roles within the club and dedicate time and energy towards helping the club to run and progress.

If you think that you have the time and skills that mean you could make a contribution to the club as a committee member then then please e-mail me (ian.crook@blackcanoncollective.co.uk) setting out which role you would like to stand for, and a few paragraphs setting out why you would be suitable for the role.

(If you feel able to only take on part of the role, or don’t want to be a committee member but have a burning desire to be more involved in the running of the club – e.g. a love of producing membership letters – please also send me an e-mail.)

These e-mails must reach me by 20/03/11 and I will then publish all of them the day after, giving plenty of time for all the members to read, digest and consider who they will vote for at the AGM.

Below are the committee roles that you can stand for:

The three Trustee roles(club officers, underwrite the club to Longleat, account signatories and have vote on all club activities. Essential roles for club to function):

Chairman – responsible for steering the club and overseeing all its activities including overall trail development.
Club Secretary – responsible for all membership and meeting related administration for the club.
Treasurer – responsible for keeping records of all financial transactions, setting budgets and maintaining accounts for the club.

All Health and Safety, Insurance, and legal issues will be the responsibility of the Trustees.

    General Committee Roles:

Website/IT – responsible for facilitating and maintaining the clubs IT & Website needs.
DH – a focal point for DH specific trail development and activities.
XC – a focal point for XC specific trail development and activities.
DJ – a focal point for DJ specific trail development and activities.

  • AGM 2010

Each spring the Black Canon Collective holds it’s Annual General Meeting, a great opportunity to all meet up, eat drink and be merry (actually this is only our second time)!

Aside from being an excuse for a party there’s the usual business to attend to such as committee elections, constitutional changes and a look at the year ahead…

We’ve hired out a great venue (big enough for all of us) and will be selling some delicious local food and drink (beer and cider and soft drinks) to raise a bit of money for club activities.

    Date: Sunday 25th April 2010
    Time: 19:00 – 21:00 (licensed bar open until 11)
    Place: Corsley Reading Rooms

    Meeting to start at 19:15

1.Welcome – General welcome and explanation of the purpose of the meeting.
2.Apologies for absence – Notable absentees
3.Treasurers Report + Accounts – Presentation of previous years accounts + proposal of forthcoming years budget.
4.Chairman’s report – Summary of the year including plans for the coming year
5.Voting – 15 minute break with refreshments and the time to vote (see item 6).
6.Election of the Trustees and Committee – Conducted via ballet box on the day.
7.Proposed changes to the Rules of the Club and Constitution – Changes voted in by way of an open vote.
8.A.O.B. – Anything from the floor / committee

We’re expecting the formalities to last about 2 hrs max (allowing for about half an hour for A.O.B)

Once all that’s out of the way we’ll be able to enjoy the rest of the evening with more food and drink, some music and and the odd raffle (or something like that). Please make sure you bring your wallets, and arrange a lift or ride your bike (off road of course) so that you can have a drink, or two… See you there !

  • Committee Candidates 2010 – 2011

Without the people who put themselves forward to take on club roles and dedicate time and energy towards helping the club to run and progress there would be no club. So thanks to all of this years candidates…

Only one candidate is standing for each role this year, meaning that the vote will be made in favour of the candidate or to call for the nominations to be re-opened at an EGM. Voting will only be possible by members attending the AGM on the 25th April 2010 so please make sure you come along!

The three Trustee roles (club officers, underwrite the club to Longleat, account signatories and have vote on all club activities. All Health and Safety, Insurance, and legal issues will be the responsibility of the Trustees. Essential roles for club to function):

    Chairman

(Responsible for steering the club and overseeing all its activities including overall trail development)

    Candidate – Andrew Denham

As with last year, I am focused upon further developing the club’s relationship with Longleat and the many other forest users, with a view to developing the allotment and surrounding area into a focal point for the local MTB community. I hope that my impact as Chairman over the past 2 years will be viewed as a positive one, having steered the club towards acheiving many of its goals, and hope to continue into year 3…

    Secretary

(Responsible for all membership and meeting related administration for the club)

    Candidate – Ian Crook

If elected as secretary I hope to continue to become more efficient at processing membership forms, replying to e-mails and generating meeting minutes.
I am most passionate about introducing novice riders to the club, mainly so I’m better than someone!

    Treasurer

(Responsible for keeping records of all financial transactions, setting budgets and maintaining accounts for the club)

    Candidate – Simon Truelove

I see myself as a rider. Not an XC rider or a DH rider, just someone who rides a bike and wants the local area to have a vibrant riding scene and some fantastic trails.
The Treasurer’s report (at the AGM) will show that my budget setting for last year will enable continual growth of the club and its activities. I don’t have any formal accountancy training, but I do have some handy maths skillz!

General Committee roles (a focal point for discipline specific trail development and activities):

    XC Rep

    Candidate – Chris Sheppard

As XC Representative I’d like to continue the development of the XC dimension to the club in terms of activities and rider development too. Whether it be someone new to mountain biking learning basic skills or someone training to compete.

    DH Rep

    Candidate – Ben Irons

I have been riding and building at the DH trails at Longleat for the past 7 years.
As DH Representative I’d like to see more DH trails developed with greater input from club members –encouraging members to test their ideas out by ‘sessioning’ together at dig days, testing alterations so as to produce even more great trails.

    Freeride Rep

    Candidate – Chris Smith

I would like to have the chance to represent the Black Canon Collective on the Freeride side of things again. I hope to use my experience – travelling the world competing and building freeride lines – and the potential of the site to build something special, a great skills area that caters for all.

    IT & Welfare Officer

(Responsible for facilitating and maintaining the clubs IT & Website needs. Contact point for all Walfare issues also)

    Candidate – Alastair Mackinlay

I’d like to put myself forward to the Website/IT position within the club. I’ve been handling the role for the past 2 years, and day to day work with websites and IT as an IT Consultant. I also run the back end for southerndownhill.com and am now familiar with WordPress and BBPress which the club uses for its website and forum. I’m a slow, social rider.
