  • Tick Tock…

Today saw the first TickerTape Mixup.

With so many of our members away / busy this weekend and some last minute event organising (well we only came up with the event a couple of days ago…) we knew not to expect loads of people. However those who did make it had a cracking time each being totally consumed by their internal competitive spirit after only their first timed run.

Ed gave the most beans by clocking up twice as many runs as everybody else, improving consistantly all day and reaching his target time.

Chris Smith didn’t quite manage the 37 sec run he was so sure was possible, but then a tree clip to stem ride to face plant combo probably had something to do with that.

Boin made a long awaited return but after over 8 weeks out was just off the top pace, though don’t underestimate his ability to set some frankly silly times when in the zone.

Ian set the benchmark time he wanted but with half his run spent frantically trying to clip in it’s one he’s looking to beat convincingly next time.

New members Simon and Nigel gave it a bash too, each finding out that a ticking clock seems to act as a crash magnet….

The winner of a brand new pair of KENDA Blue Groove 2.35 StickE tyres was Ed for showing some real dedication.

Chris was later seen clutching the TickerTape trophy as if the winner of a race, with Ben and Ed either side of him (see pic for dodgy facial expressions). Odd really as this definitely wasn’t a race, at all, honest. No really.

Next month we’ll be taping Spoons with an alternative top section….so get practicing if you want to win one of the prizes or get your hands on the oh so coveted TickerTape trophy.

  • Dig Day

    simon

Today’s Dig Day was a raving success!

We gave every course some Valentine’s day loving, cut and stacked loads of wood, created many many course markings and even found time to fillet the old table top nr the old seating area (seperating all the rocks, wood and soil).

The new 5Ltr pump action thermos flasks performed admirably providing piping hot tea and biscuits (the biscuits were cold) all day long.

We sorted out the new 143 bottom section and even an alternative drop line at the top (all to be built at the March weekender – see the events calendar) .

A special mention should be given to Ryan for his oh so amusing rock gathering throwing (the new signs have been taking a beating!) and Ben for running full pelt down 143 clutching a rock, jumping off ‘mini step’ and pulling an imaginary table top then face planting into ‘flip flop’, all because he was excited that he’d found a fossil in the rock!

We got loads done but as with most things – many hands make light work, or in this case many hands can get far more done in the same time!

  • TickerTape Mixup

    tickertape-mixup

Ok so the name’s now a little different, but the mix up is here to stay!

Tomorrow’s will start at 11:00 and run until about 15:00, there’ll be a couple of prizes; 1  given out to the person with the best style/ commitment and 1 given out at random (all other names in a hat) – the new 3Focus DVD and a pair of new DH tyres.

We’ll be riding BBMS (but this will change each month) fully taped and freshly polished.

The Freelap system will be available to use, with three watches (and many members owning their own) its sure to run smoothly.

There’ll be no food this time but the plan will be to offer bacon butties and slices of cake  at 50p each to pay for the tape and keep things ticking over.

So, come along and join in… it’ll be a good crack and an opportunity to wind each other up for messing up on the last corner!

  • Dig Day Reminder

(imaginative titles are not my thing – you maybe able to tell!)

The Dig Day tomorrow (14/02/09) will start at 10am and finish at 4pm.

Hot drinks will be provided, but please bring food, water and if possible tools.

Please come along, all are welcome!

  • Important meeting

Meeting Paul Hawkins from Project 1SW www.1SW.org.uk this morning. Will be discussing the potential for developing the area in line with plans to make the south west of England a focal point for mountain biking. I’ve been looking forward to this meeting like a child does to Christmas! Will update later today.. Oh and Russell Burton has produced a draft outline of his thoughts on the area which I received last night!!! Full details to follow. Exciting times.

  • TickerTape Jam

Were improving the format of the ‘BCC Weekender’ by launching a new event on day two… It’s called the ‘TickerTape Jam’ and will be monkey phat lush! (that’s a homage to the man responsible for coming up with the name – our own ‘Big Bird’, Simon Truelove).

We’ll put up some more info very shortly but you can expect a lush mix of taped courses, timing systems, sausages, music and prizes!

Members only though so please bring your membership cards or proof of membership….

  • love

Saturday the 14th February is a day to celebrate the one you love by spoiling them a little.

The BCC is no different, we love the allotment and so will be spending the whole day dedicating our time to pampering it, making it feel special and then giving it a right good going over the following day (well think of all those brownie points we’ll have earned!).

You’ve guessed it; its the BCC weekender – as per the usual set up it’s dig day on Saturday followed by a ride day on Sunday.

There’ll be plenty of tea and biscuits for all those that help out but do remember to bring some lunch.

Full details to follow shortly, but in the mean time the dig day will run from 10:00 – 16:00.

    See you there!

(If you’re a non member and would like to help out then please come along, everyone is welcome to dig days!)

  • Big Air Contest

When not able to ride their mountain bikes our members still try to push the boundaries of any and all extreme sorts ….cough, cough, OK, perhaps not.  looks fun, though I’m not sure that a sledge “no-hander” carries quite the same kudos as it does on a bike. Good work Tom!

  • Tweet Tweet!

OK I know that this may well be a passing fad for many people BUT having an embedded twitter feed on the front page of the website allows me to easily upload news, images and general information from practically anywhere. Although limited to 140 characters this is great and will mean that night rides, dig days, club trips etc can all be shared as they happen. So check out the feed on the front page, or if you’d like follow us see http://twitter.com/BlackCanon, username @BlackCanon.
