  • Trail doodles

Yesterday we completed the lower section of puppets, raked and groomed the whole trail and then smiled as we imagined racing it in two weeks time at the next TickerTape.
We drank tea, ate chocolates and debated the ethical robustness of GM food (I know….not what I was expecting either).
The afternoon was spent trail doodling, sketching a new lower section for BBMS with our tyres.
Turns out we did a pretty good job, getting the feel and flow just right, so we raked it to unearth the ground features and define the trail.
Clearing loam (a foot deep in places) really takes it out of your arms and back, but seeing the trail evolve is infectious so we carried on raking until we couldn’t anymore.

  • MBUK – more BCC goodness!

As you may have seen we’re in MBUK this month!
The pics were taken a few years ago now, when Gee Atherton (riding for muddyfox!!!) cleared the “Smith Gap” landing on the never before (or since) attempted second landing.
Things have certainly moved on since then, with more trails being built by the hardworking BCC Dig Day crew and loads of mini races, events and activities being offered by the Collective and its members.
If you want to get involved, or ask some questions please email andrew.denham@blackcanoncollective.co.uk
The whole Allotment is licensed to the club by the Longleat Estate so you do have to be a member to ride there (and carry a valid BCC Membership Card). Riding the Allotment without a Membership Card will cause big problems as we stand to lose all the hard work we’ve put in to build this great local riding spot, so please join up if you like what you see.  You can join by reading our membership page here and following the instructions….
    Cheers!

  • No BMX this Friday

Due to the bad weather we won’t be riding at Bath BMX this Friday. It’s not cool to ride it when wet as the track really suffers.

See you there next week (when the sun’ll be shining)…

  • Follow Me UK Premier (&BCC fundraiser)!

  • Dinner 'til dusk….what a course!!!

This is a reminder to all those who enjoy riding in circles.
This is a call to all those who enjoy frantic looping, swooping down singletrack, charging up fire roads, overtaking, being overtaken, crashing, exhaustion, carbo loading, protein shakes and eating tasteless cereal bars.
This is an opportunity for people riding solo to complete 27 laps in 180 minutes (!), or for a team of four to do a lap each and then heckle the people still torturing themselves.

This is the first BCC Dinner ’til Dusk….and it’s going to be awesome!

While this isn’t a competitive event (more of a chance to pretend that you’re at a race….) we thought that having some ace prizes to win would be quite nice. So, thanks to the guys a KCNC (and MAX BIKES PR) we’ll be giving away three prizes to the riders who show the most beans (enthusiasm, commitment, determination and sportsmanship) !

  • AGM 2010

Each spring the Black Canon Collective holds it’s Annual General Meeting, a great opportunity to all meet up, eat drink and be merry (actually this is only our second time)!

Aside from being an excuse for a party there’s the usual business to attend to such as committee elections, constitutional changes and a look at the year ahead…

We’ve hired out a great venue (big enough for all of us) and will be selling some delicious local food and drink (beer and cider and soft drinks) to raise a bit of money for club activities.

    Date: Sunday 25th April 2010
    Time: 19:00 – 21:00 (licensed bar open until 11)
    Place: Corsley Reading Rooms

    Meeting to start at 19:15

1.Welcome – General welcome and explanation of the purpose of the meeting.
2.Apologies for absence – Notable absentees

5.Voting – 15 minute break with refreshments and the time to vote (see item 6).
6.Election of the Trustees and Committee – Conducted via ballet box on the day.
7.Proposed changes to the Rules of the Club and Constitution – Changes voted in by way of an open vote.
8.A.O.B. – Anything from the floor / committee

We’re expecting the formalities to last about 2 hrs max (allowing for about half an hour for A.O.B)

Once all that’s out of the way we’ll be able to enjoy the rest of the evening with more food and drink, some music and and the odd raffle (or something like that). Please make sure you bring your wallets, and arrange a lift or ride your bike (off road of course) so that you can have a drink, or two… See you there !

  • New Constitution and Rules Proposed

We’ve had our existing constitution and club rules for two years now, and to be honest they’re outdated. When we formed the club back in spring 2008 we had very little to go on, so cobbled together what we hoped would be a good set of rules and a suitable constitution.

Since then the BCC has evolved from around 20 local riders who all rode the same trails, to over 110 members with many and different needs and riding interests. The Club has expanded in more ways than simply its membership base though, we now run a large number of led rides, events, provide training and organise trips (we’re doing great!)

But with all of this comes responsibility, so we have had to re-visit these documents to make sure that the club is sound – built upon solid foundations.

With the help of British Cycling (specifically national board member – Colin Docker) we have re-written both the Club Constitution and Rules, based heavily upon the BC template.

These documents will be proposed at the AGM and be subject to vote, so long as a 2/3 majority vote is cast in favour they will replace our existing documents.

Please have a read (you can browse the whole document below) , and come along to the AGM where you can vote…
